Simple Ways to Kick The Cold/Flu and Possibly Prevent It!

Winter is coming! For me that means Cold and Flu season!! (queue the fainting and screaming!) In all seriousness I hate getting sick! I hate it when my kids get sick! I definitely  hate it when my husband gets sick (ladies we can all agree here!)  Let’s  be prepared and boost our immune systems!

What would you say if I told you I rarely get the cold or flu, even when my three kids and husband are ill. Would you believe me? Would you wonder how? Well let me tell you. It’s really quite simple. God has given us wonderful plants that enable us to heal quickly and keep our immune system strong! Let me take you through the protocol I take when someone in my household starts to get the sniffles.

Garlic

This is my go to. As soon as someone in the house starts to come down with a cold or I start to feel a little something on the horizon, I go straight for the garlic! Garlic is naturally antimicrobial and antiviral, so of course this is my first choice in flu/cold prevention. This has helped me many times in getting a full on cold or flu and at other times it has completely prevented it.

How I take it

2 cloves – Finely chopped, down the hatch with some water, basically like taking a pill.

Elderberry Syrup

My second go to is Elderberry Syrup. As soon as someone starts to show any signs of a cold I grab my bag of dried elderberries and get a syrup made as soon as possible! Elderberries are one of the highest sources of vitamin C in the world! So it’s no wonder why elderberries help boost the immune system. They are also my girls favorite, they love elderberry syrup.  It is so simple to make your own elderberry syrup and much more cost effective. Here is where I get my elderberries. Along with my recipe.

Echinacea

I love echinacea! It is such a simple thing to add to the cold and flu protocol. The reason being is I take it in pill form. No need to make anything, I just add it to my morning supplements. Clinical trials and research has shown that people who take echinacea as soon as they feel sick reduce the severity of their cold and have fewer symptoms than those who do not take the herb. I do buy it in tincture form for my girls since they are not able to swallow pills.

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D is such an important factor in keeping us healthy. Many studies have been done to show how important Vitamin D is when it comes to our immune system. Three-quarters of U.S. teens and adults are deficient in vitamin D (1). Knowing your Vitamin D levels are very important and a simple blood test can tell you if you are deficient. My levels are quite low so I take 10,000 IU’s daily along with a non soy derived K2 vitamin which helps the body assimilate Vitamin D better. When fighting a cold or flu it’s best to take a high dosage of vitamin D,10,00o IUs, as it has shown to reduce the duration of the cold or flu. Other studies have shown that taking high dose of Vitamin D is more even more effective than a flu shot!

Here is a wonderful article by Dr. Mercola on the effectiveness of how Vitamin D can prevent the flu.

Colloidal Silver

Colloidal silver has a wide range of amazing benefits. At first I was a little hesitant at using it because I was not familiar with it. Once I did my research I realized what a great asset it would be to my cold/flu protocol. Studies have shown that it binds to certain virus and germs and destroys them. I have also used it to treat conjunctivitis in my daughters eye and cleared it up in three days! It was amazing to see colloidal silver in action!

How we take Colloidal Silver

Take one teaspoon of colloidal silver hold under your tongue for 30 seconds and swallow, do this 2-3 times daily.

Here is the colloidal silver I use

Probiotics

My family and I use probiotics as one of our daily supplements but if we need a little immune boost I double sometimes triple our probiotic intake. I also have a revolving door of fermented veggies that we incorporate into our meals daily. That way we get a wide range of probiotics. It’s important to change things up once in awhile so our gut does not get used to certain strains of probiotics.

Flu Bomb

This is not for the faint of heart. It is a strong little shot that’s gonna kick that cold/flu’s butt! I love it though, it really opens the sinuses! Its full of anti-viral combating and immune boosting ingredients! Try it out and see what you think!

Flu Bomb

1-2 cloves crushed raw garlic

1/4 teaspoon finely chopped ginger

1 teaspoon local raw honey

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1/4-1/2 cup hot water – this is more of a preference, wanna sip it or shoot it down its up to you

Don’t let the Cold/Flu season get you! Boost that immune system and stay well!
